Datalinks can be created with the Datalink Wizard. The wizard can be opened via menu Edit / Wizards / Datalinks ... or in the satellites scenario by right-click menu on the satellite and selecting Wizard / Datalink...
They can be edited again via the Wizard or via the Properties pane.
In the first wizard page define
the link type, whether the link is DIRECT between satellite and Ground Station, or via Data Relay satellite (DRS).
the link Bit rate, specifying the throughput supported by this link. it will be used to estimate the duration of data dumps.
the EIRP, defining the Equivalent Isotropic Radiated Power emitted by this link, used to calculate data transmission and reception link budgets
the transmitting antenna gain, in dB
the transmission frequency to calculate the free-space path losses.
In the second page define optionally the horizon mask.
If not defined, it will be assumed that the link has full spherical visibility.
When defined, the horizon mask divides the visibility sphere in two sections, one with visibility, the other without.
An additional parameter is needed to remove the ambiguity of the mask action, i.e. what section of the visibility sphere needs to be masked, whether the section ABOVE or BELOW the horizon mask.
The third page allows to edit the optional datalink constraints.
The last page allows to define optionally restrictions, whereby the link may be used with all the ground station antennas (default), and a selected subset of them.
